alt.lifestyle.furry posting statistics

Note: Collection of these statistics and archiving of posts is due to end October 2004.

These are posting statistics for the newsgroup alt.lifestyle.furry. Not all data is currently available, the first two months of the group's history does not seem to have been archived, and other periods such as October '97 through November 20th '97, and December 23rd '97 though January 1st '98 have fallen through the cracks. Finally, some articles never made it to this study due to propogation problems. As well as intermittant propogation when the group was created, there seem to have been problems with the propogation in furrynet. An unknown number of articles posted to furry.ao.net went missing.

Furs refers to the inhabitants of a.l.f. The number of furs posting based on unique "From:" address names that month is shown. Inevitably this includes some spammers, and counts furs posting from more than one host (or who misspell their name) twice. Active furs are those who post five or more articles in a month. Shy furs post fewer than five. Sum is the total number of furs who have used the group, including previous months.

Posts is the number of posts made during the months (excluding cancelled messages), and also has a cumulative count.

Bytes measures the volume of new text added to the group. It excludes article headers, quoted material, signature lines, uuencoded material, HTML, and MIME type which isn't text. A cumulative figure is also given.
