Anthrocon 1999

Saturday 3 July:

Discovered that the confined space around the breakfast buffet wasn't suitable for tails. Attended the "when it stops being VR" panel with Swampy out of curiosity: I don't do the Muck thing, and I've never had an online relationship - but it does happen to those I care about, and I wanted to try and understand. I also attended Aeto's mask making demonstration which was fascinating, and rather fired up my latent desire to build a costume.

I had to grab another room service lunch, so I missed the charity auction. Lunch turned into an extended conversation with Sandroo about many troubles which was very useful, and also a break from the activity downstairs which I found I was needing every day.

The Masquerade was another experience not to be missed, though I almost did (I don't remember why). The ones that stick in my mind were the two highly synchronized dancers, the griffin, three cats & two joes, and the heavy metal wuff. Again I was finding the whole idea of fursuits infectious.

Saturday was also the totemism sig (and alf party). Other furs have already refered to this as "alf-live", and its a good description even down to the buffet tables. The though the sig was more organised - thanks to the our disappearing & re-appearing panelists (BTW are Aeto's pictures on the web yet?). Special mention _has_ to go to Cat (Chris) for being voted honourary panelist, doing a fine job of keeping folks talking one at a time, and starting the move to abandon the chairs in favour of the floor. This was a special time for me - I think the first time I've actually managed to discuss spirituality issues with other furs. It was good to see that it wasn't just alfers there, and that they got plenty of chance to speak too.

At 3am or so we ended the session, with a few of us planning to resume in Ambergold's room. This quickly changed into an amuzing .milfur story session - thanks Shockwave & Ambergold - I think I was too tired to contribute any more, and after another hour accumulated timeshifts meant I could barely stay awake.
