So you want to contribute?

After reading the group for a while (some may feel comfortable after a day, others after a year), you may decide you want to stick your muzzle out from the bushes and contribute to the discussion.

If you are familiar with other Usenet forums and you've got your client software set up how you want it then you may want to read through the group's FAQ and then go ahead and post.

Not used Usenet before?

If this is the first newsgroup you'll be contributing too, then you will probably want to read through the next few sections so you can feel more comfortable about what you are doing, know that your client software is correctly configured, and have some idea of what to expect, and what will be expected of you.

Feeling really cautions?

If you don't feel comfortable posting to the group straight away, another option is to send e-mail to one of the furs you've read articles from. I haven't come across a furry yet who didn't like receiving e-mail, and its an honour to be chosen as someone's first contact with the community.

Its worth double-checking the e-mail address of the poster you want to send mail to. Most members of the group alter their address so they won't receive Unsolicited Commercial E-mail from programs that harvest addresses from newsgroup posts. If the address contains the word "spam" or it has a silly domain name then you may need to alter it to get the true address. Often instructions for doing this will be in the signature part of the post itself. Later in this guide I'll show you how to protect your own address from such spam.
