Another late start (did the Demento party really go on till 3am?), and another breakfast at Michaels (I'm beginning to detect a pattern here). A last circuit of the dealers room yielded a book for the trip home ("Assimov's" Werewolves), and a chat with Tim about wolfy books.
Joined Nrasser and Sandroo in the outback, and talked about some of the differences between us furries and yuppies making use of the wilderness.
Had a long talk with Tirran while soaking in the hotel pool. Amongst many topics covered (its not often you have somefurs undivided attention for over an hour at a con) was Tir's part in how Anthrocon became so big. I won't begin to try and retell that story - even its orator admitted that the sequence of events was reminiscent of the TV show "Connections" which is now a column is Scientific American written by James Burke. Suffice to say that the series of links were obvious when traced back, but looking forward the outcome could never have been predicted.
I know Tirran came to the con looking for answers, but it seemed he was at least answering some of mine, adding pieces to the puzzle Kimba and others had been helping me to solve some weeks previously.
The traditional Outback Outing set off in record time (how did that happen?), and was great fun as well as exquisitely tasty. Aetobatus was even more animated than usual, and I apologise to those around us for distracting him somewhat with Tech-talk. Thanks again to Harry for treating us all, and to Jinx for his impromptu illustration that brought such a smile to our waitresses face. These moments when furry leaks into the real world are priceless. Its good to know that the same Outback will probably get our return visit next year. Thanks to Duncan and others for the organisation.
The husky was also host to the Scotch Tasting - our first excursion was cut short on the back stairs, feeling furs from the Dead Dog warned of problems with cops on the eighth floor. A quick phone call ensured that coast was clear. It was a very pleasant end to the conference proper, and I got to introduce some more furs to proper chocolate. I'm also going to have to look out for that molasses like scotch (Loch Odu?) and Auch-I-can-only-pronounce-then-name-with-the-bottle-in-front-of-me.
